The host system in question is otherwise stable. In other words, Windows can only format a device within 32GB storage to FAT32. It is because the FAT32 file system has a 32GB max size limit. Reinstalling or installing the last version of 6 didn't change this outcome. While formatting a large hard drive, external hard drive or USB drive as Fat32, you may fail to complete the format using the default Windows format tool - using Windows File Explorer or Disk Management.

#FREE DOS DISK SIZE LIMIT INSTALL#
So to even get this far I've had to install the guests exclusively on SCSI virtual disks and add the physical disks exclusively as IDE. But an upgrade from 5.6 and probably 6.0 to 6.2 will continue to utilize DOS partition tables which have a limit of 2 TB. Adding the physical disks as IDE when the guest OS is booting from a virtual IDE drive halts/crashes the guest before bootup. It looks like a clean install of 6.2 will allow you to use the entire disk no matter of size by using GUID partition tables. That’s to say, you can’t format one FAT32 partition larger than 32 GB or you can’t format one NTFS partition larger than 32 GB to FAT32 Partition with disk management. That should narrow things down a lot, as maybe the unix guest support in Workstation 6 just doesn't support >500gb disks?īonus notes I've found when testing these physical disks: Adding the physical disks as SCSI crashes vmware. Unfortunately, to FAT32 partition, the format tool built-in windows 7/8/10 etc limit it to 32GB. I just tried the latest Ubuntu and it appears to show the disks as their full size.

Two identical empty 500GB SATA disks on a PCI Sil3114 controller forwarded as IDE physical disks show up as 128GB disks in both operating system guests. The FreeBSD VM is set to emulate FreeBSD, and the OpenSolaris VM is set to emulate Solaris 10.

I tried FreeBSD 7 beta 3 and OpenSolaris Project Indiana Developer Preview which is Nevada build 75. Most users should use this image to install FreeDOS.
